I Don't Wanna Go to School!
Three year olds are very dramatic creatures. Anything can set them off into tantrums, displaying the power of emotion. Luckily, for the most part, they can turn it right around with the right persuasion, distraction or silliness. The adult has to demonstrate a similar range of emotional fortitude to make it through every day.
When Neli was just starting to talk he was quoted at school to say "Poppy has eyes". He obviously has an eye for Poppy.

Swimming to Maui
Probably more swimming than most people prefer to watch. Lots of video of our 6 person relay team swimming from Lanai to Maui. We weren't the fastest team in the water, but we weren't the slowest either. The race director said the conditions were one of the worst in 25 plus years - lots of chop, minor swell and non-stop wind.
See who won here. Our team, the B Team (composed of all Los Al High Graduates), was 6th out of 10 in our cumulative age group.

Amakua Race
Two days later Matt, John and I swam the Amakua Race. The range of swimmers is incredible in open water swimming, age and sex don't seem to make much of a difference.
See graphical representations of the swimmers from this "fun run" swim race.
Midway in this race there is a coral tunnel to swim under. Those that make it under get a minute erased from their time. We all did it.
Here is a video I shot of the tunnel
And me swimming under the tunnel
Note - I do not have a career in underwater videography awaiting me.
Turtle video I shot
Another turtle video with barnacles or some growth on it.

March 2010
The brain is a powerful thing - it is incredible what Neli is learning, absorbing, remembering. Today he corrected a friend of ours that our new chicks are not just chickens but "Black Australorps". I only told him that once, two weeks ago.
Neli loves to sing and we are learning new songs from him. A couple of days ago he sang "I don't want to work, I just want to bang on my drum all day". I have no idea where he learned that from.
He is a puzzle master and has the patience to do jigsaw puzzles repeatedly.
Letters - he is fascinated by them and can tell us what different words start with and often asks what different words start with. He will stop at signs or car license plates and read the letters.
He often asks to touch Nadine's eye ball ????
He is becoming a little boy, starting to dress himself and use the potty. We jump for joy (mini dance parties) when he goes in the potty and that is pretty great motivation for him.
Finally he can pedal his tricycle, but still not very well.
