Interpreting Neli
Gur-Gur after about a year we have figured out what a Gur-Gur is. He would call Nadine a Gur-Gur sometimes but we never knew what he meant. We'd ask "is dadda a Gur-Gur" and he would state emphatically "no". Other times when we would ask if Mama was a Gur-Gur he would say "no". After a while we realized that a Gur-Gur is a person who has their hair pulled back. We have tested this theory with a few different women but we still need to test it out with long haired men to find out if a Gur-Gur is either sex wih their hair pulled back or just a woman.
When you put a cloth like item on your chest or stomach (hand towel, tshirt) and run around the house you are a Kafawena. Kafawena (noun) a cloth like item placed on the chest when running around, (noun) the person that is running around with a cloth like item on their chest.
"Sometimes you get what you get and you don't get to pick." A great saying and mantra for a two year old. He stated this one while on a walk at Wadell Creek. We heard a truck/tractor noise and I said we might get to see it but I wasn't sure if we would on during our little hike. After we passed the sound and never encountered the machine Neli happily stated "Sometimes you get what you get and you don't get to pick."
Ever since Neli and Isak saw a puppet show of Puff the Magic Dragon at the fair they have both been obsessed with Puff. One of Neli's current past times is to swing in the swing in the living room and request different versions of Puff the Magic Dragon Songs from YouTube. He asks for different colored versions. "Mamma play a green version and then play a brown version".
We found the perfect dragon costume and Neli seemed quite excited to be Puff for Halloween, but he would never put the costume on. He would point out the costume on the table and say "what's this Mamma" but when we'd try to put it on he would complain and whine.
Hottie Mamma. Neli will call Nadine a hottie mamma but only when she has a tank top on. Today at school at pick up he ran up to her and told that he cried about her today. Later during pick up he asked Nadine to take off her sleeves to become a hottie momma.

Fall Fun
Neli has been a great little hiker and helper in the kitchen. May that continue.
On this hike at Fall Creek Greta (Buddy) and Neli (Bunny) haven't quite figured out to let go of their hands when they trip. It is cute and nerve racking at the same time to see them walk on uneven ground.

July 2009
Neli had a great time riding the gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain and then hiking down. We spent a good amount of time hitting pinecones with sticks.
Camping was fun, throwing rocks in the lake was a hit as were the cheesy noodles cooked over the fire. The excitment turned him in to a chatter box at bed time in the tent. He talked about everything and anything in a non sequitur manner for 1/2 hour. It was kinda of comical but tiring at the same time.

Momentous Change
From December to May Neli has gone from a crawling little dude that spewed out words to a running toddler we have "conversations" with.

1 and 1/2 Year Old Check Up
18 month well child check today. Neli is in ninty percentile for both height and weight (30 lbs and now he uses the standing scale).
During the doctors language check she asked what a dog says, what a cat says and what a lion says. Neli gave the expected replies of "woof woof" "meow" and "roar" (roar always includes hands in the air with claws). And then he told her "roar, bear too" (more arms and claws). When she asked Neli if he had ever seen a lion, he said "books."

The Little Labeler
Neli goes to day care twice a week and has earned the nickname "the labeler".
In the morning when we drop him off and are hanging around with him he happily plays with little trucks. Everytime a new kid comes in the room he non-chalantly turns his head for moment and states the new arrivals name and quickly returns to his truck business "vroom, vroom, vroom". Maybe some day he will be one of those announcer persons that calls off the names of newly arrived guests at formal parties.
During lunch, perched in his highchair, the teachers tell us that as he is eating he takes breaks in between bits to name each kid sitting at the table.
He loves his words. Some of our favorites are:
cresent moon
tranquila
cwen up (clean up)
BULLL-dohzer
bounce house (the jumpy house the neighbors have)
ring, ring dadda, yes, yes (with phone in hand)
Obama plane (he has toy a Air Force One with Obama on it)
All the little parts of his toy train ingin, tan-ker, FLATbed, tender, acabooose

Happy New Year
Greetings friends! Welcome to 2009. What a change we are expecting on the 20th of this month. This could be the start of something great. No I am not talking about my 39th birthday I am talking about losing that shoe target of a president that has done so bad "mala gente".
May lots of hope and optimism bring good things your way.
Be happy, eat good food, smile often.
